The night Glen Miller played

We pledged our love for ever on that
squeaky ballroom floor,
Though no one knew for certain what
the future had in store.
Our country was in danger and being put
to the test,
And so we went to do our part along
with all the rest.
We all believed we’d meet again
and start our lives anew,
Though fate was forging different plans
no thought for me or you
Yes we were unaware that night
our dreams would be betrayed,
‘Cause we were very much in love the night
Glen Miller played.
So we danced on believing that this
was no brief affair,
But knowing in the morning the world
we knew may not be there.
On and on we danced that night
wishing we could have stayed,
Together just the way it was the night
Glen Miller played.
We wrote each other letters and recalled
that night of bliss,
The way we danced together and then
shared that tender kiss.
But life conspired to cheat us
and the plans that we had made,
Leaving just the memory of the night
Glen Miller played.
I passed that dance hall yesterday it’s
dark and overgrown,
It seemed like only yesterday but sixty years
had flown.
But I could hear the music coming from
the broken pane,
And we were dancing cheek to cheek
together once again.
And so we danced together on the
pavement you and I,
Dancing close together with the people
passing by.
Were you really in my arms or was it
a charade,
Or were we back together on the night
Glen Miller played.
